It’s over. Go tell your boss.
I have given you the undisputed proof.
I mean it only comes from like 150 of my twitter followers…
But they are the smartest.
So.
I asked how many Christmas songs they like to sing in a worship service.
Here is your undisputed proof that you can do more than one…

What is your favorite Xmas song?

My favorite Christmas song is Carol of the Bells. But really, anytime I hear a song from Home Alone or Home Alone 2, that puts me right in the mood!

I like Carol of the Bells as well! My favorite version is by August Burns Red. Not sure how it would go over on Sunday though!

I saw David Crowder perform Carol of the Bells at his church during Sunday morning service once. It was amazing.

My favorite Christmas song is Carol of the Bells. But really, anytime I hear a song from Home Alone, Home Alone 2, or A Charlie Brown Christmas, that puts me right in the mood!

charlie brown xmas is still my favorite xmas album but for playing at church, I’m in love with the Wickham arrangement of O Come Emmanuel. So much tension in the arrangement like he’s really desperate for the promised one. We should all feel that longing for our Savior!

But when you say “2 or 3″, don’t you need that qualified with how many songs are done each week total? I know Northpoint usually does around 3 songs a week, but at mine we’ll do 5 or 6 even. So “2 or 3″ at Northpoint is a lot, but for others that’s not many!

    Oh Holy Night

But my favorite secular Christmas song is Baby It’s Cold Outside

Why don’t we sing do an entire set of Christmas songs? It’s not my first choice because I question the effectiveness of classic carols for worship. But that might be because I think I can see into the hearts of men.

I’m digging “Jesus Is Alive” by Josh Wilson right now. For a classic, I love the lyrics to “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing.”

    Silent Night

I love Oh, Holy Night, but not when it’s sung in an operatically high octave.

I also love The Holly and the Ivy, and I really like that Trans-siberian Orchestra’s Prince of Peace is just The Holly and the Ivy with more Christian words.

And The Piano Guys have just made a new version of Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel that is hauntingly beautiful: http://youtu.be/iO7ySn-Swwc

      It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?

I got goosebumps within 40 seconds.

      Lovely! Thanks.

“I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” Great balance of melancholy and hope which I think feels familiar to everyone. Also, In the Bleak Midwinter = the poetry and melody click bigtime.

  • Ron

“Mamacita, Donde esta Santa Claus?” -El Vez

  • Megs

No Christmas songs in church until Christmas eve. Unless its Come o Come Immanuel. Embrace the waiting… it’s advent.

  • Billy Starlweather
