We all want to be an extra bit…
Sexy…Hot…Gangsta…Or whatever is your “extra”.
It’s ok.
But the funny thing about most of those pictures we take of ourselves is this…

Unless you spend the majority of your day looking like you are hanging with Jay-Z on a photo shoot or hanging out in clubs with Kim Kardasian (God let’s hope that isn’t any of your dream) then I have some advice for you.

Get some kids around you that know you.
Like maybe… your kids.
And if you don’t have any…
Borrow some…
Now.
Try and take that same pic…

See what happened?
They know the true you.

Now I hear some of you.
You are more serious than playful.
And well then…
Lighten up…
I mean that’s ok…

But the truth is that although you do look sexy and stuff with your duck face or gangsta and stuff with your snarl…
The world would much rather you simply…Be You.

5% of days for me it’s gansta.
95% days for me it’s this…

It’s better that way…

      Thanks Amiga!

Don’t you think there’s a middle ground somewhere? I do a little of both. I’m always posting crazy pic that hopefully show I don’t take myself to seriously!

    • http://www.ragamuffinsoul.com loswhit

Sure! I’m just not a middle groundish guy. lol…
I just think a profile pic should reflect you the most. Other pics are fine!

      • Jess

I do think a profile pic depends on your profession too. You can’t be all gangsta, hot or crazy if you are business professional. But, I’m really jumping on a different thought when you posted this (see below).

I like to thank that “gangsta” face is replaced by the “dad” face when you become a father.

It’s not so much trying to look like a bad ass. It is trying to maintain that look that says to the kids, I am the boss here and you will obey me.

  • Marssia

That is so awesome! The crazy face kid pic is just the best anyway!!!

  • Jess

    Truth!
Even though I’m not going to make my profile picture be of me with no make up on in my pajamas, I have been smacked up side the head lately w/ the entire thing of trying to be “Hot” all the time. Men. Women. I’m talking Christians. Why are we trying to be Hot? I mean, we can have style, and look good and have fun w/ our style; but what big old lie have we sucked down, too, just like the rest of the world that we need to look “Hot”, too? Exactly, what are we trying to do, dance on a table at a club like maybe we did at 21 and pick up a guy in a bar? I dunno, wait, who did that…but, truly? We don’t have to wear a tent or look like we are Amish (no offense to the Amish); but what is going on here, in the Christian realm? Again, I like style, I am not giving up make up or some cute cheap clothes. And I expect it from women b/c we all drink the hollywood koolaid of beatuy; but it’s true, men seem to be on a gangsta, hip, I’m hot in my skinny jeans and low V (holla, Jon acuff) shirt, too. I am glad our men have some swag; and I like my husband to represent in some clothes made in this decade; but really what is going on?

You guys are SO DARK right now!

I have a face moostash in my profile pic on Twitter and FB. I guess I embrace the silly a little easier than some.

Glad you addressed the duck face issue. It’s one that should be taken a little more seriously than it currently is.

    • http://brina-harwood.blogspot.com/ Brina

      FAKE! Face… I’m a dork.

  • terrence gooden

You don’t need the “gansta” look! You have a family that most gangsta would love to have! And it is way more inspiring to see you being a father struggling and overcoming than snarling in every picture! Your the face of what more of us should aspire to have…

Your daily percentages are right on! Real is better.

  • http://www.lancelang.com Lance

yes sir! this is the truth about all of us. So refreshing as always los. Best advice and inspiration i ever received was that more people would follow me and i would influence more by just being real.
so….that’s what i try and be. just me. a broken and forgiven, recovering drug addict.

  • Sandwich

PERFECT! Great timing too as I just feel like I looked at glamour shots on fb!

I enjoyed your post! It is so “real.” I like the fact that you are comfortable being “you” outside of what society says a Christian should look like. Men have been wearing T-shirts, baseball hats and jeans before it was labeled, “gangsta.”

I look for a new Christian blog every week or so, as it gives me inspiration for my Christian craft shop.It is refreshing to find your blog. Many blessings!
