Dear Rachel.
You are getting paid a few bucks an hour trying to pay your bills.
This guy is an executive and a professor.
Bravo.
May we all handle verbal bombs with as much grace as you did.
Los

    amen.

Looks like the bully will now be looking for another job…

    http://www.businessinsider.com/vante-cfo-bullies-chick-fil-a-worker-then-promptly-gets-fired-for-it-2012-8

Good for his company. If he were my employee I would have done the same thing. The vindictive, sarcastic side of my nature thinks that it would be hilarious if he ended up having to do shift work at Mickey-D’s for a while.

Side note: He originally posted the video on YouTube and removed it after folks reacted negatively in the comments. Someone reposted this so that he couldn’t hide his actions from the world.

Thahts pretty awesome to hear because this video is ridiculously dumb. Especially because this “all-inclusive, non-hater” looks way more hateful in this video than any one else. I love just how intolerant people who claim to be tolerant are! Seriously, if youre so tolerant than why cant you tolerate my own personal beliefs and convictions.

  • John

He is not an exec anymore. Receiving the consequences of his bullying behavior. His company fired him.

  • Bill

Man, that was perfect. I love how he filmed it thinking he was going to make himself look like a hero, and he ended up documenting the perfect example of grace and love!

    • Jess

      AMEN.

  • Dewayne

Who the ___ is this guy?!

Our goal is that when someone looks at us, they see Christ. Mission accomplished Rachel. You are awesome!

  • http://www.calebgordon.com Caleb Gordon

Once again… an angry liberal exposed! And they say Christians are mean. hahahahaaa!

    Way to go Rachel!

    • http://www.ragamuffinsoul.com loswhit

Careful you don’t sound like an angry conservative. ;)

      • http://www.calebgordon.com Caleb Gordon

        True story.

It’s always easy to point out the bad in someone else. Sometimes it’s hard to see the bad in me.
        But I need that exposed.

        Thanks los!

  • http://www.calebgordon.com Caleb Gordon

    I hope she get’s a massive raise!!!

  • Ruth

That made me so embarrassed for him. Ick. Great job, Rachel!!

  • http://Carolesmithturner.com Carole Turner

I feel sorry for him really and I pray he saw in Rachel what everyone else did-Jesus walking and talking. God works in mysterious ways.

  • Greg

What patience and excellent customer service. I doubt I could have reacted so well.

  • Tiffani Brown

LOVE this statement made by his FORMER employer

“The actions of Mr. Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions. We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.”

  • Jen

This video had me all teary eyed, because you could see how freaked out Rachel was to be put in a totally unfair position…. I can empathize with that feeling so much. I especially liked when she said “this conversation is making me really uncomfortable.” That is a very mature and impressive statement from a (I’m assuming) teenager. She is very brave. Well done Rachel. I hope that experience made you feel stronger and more confident, that you can handle a situation with grace even if it scares the crap out of you.

  • John

wow…just…wow. thanks, Los, for posting and celebrating Rachel!

  • Dave

As an owner of a similar company (I’ve personally dealt with bullies like this), I just wanted to hug her while she most likely burst into tears as he drove away. The hardest part is repeating “be a light” to yourself as the rage continues to grow inside you. Arrg! What a great example she is!

  • Miriam

Ew. That guy was a bully. There are more tactful ways of disagreeing with a company than embarrassing yourself and then getting yourself canned.

I don’t agree with Chick-fil-a either, but really. Behaving like this is just as arrogant as Dan Cathy’s “guilty as charged” statement.

    • Paul

The only “arrogant” thing, and I don’t think he even said it out of arrogance, is that he said God would punish the USA for homosexuality. How would anyone know that? Does not God keep his own counsil? As far as what God accepts or does not accept as a union between two people, sexually, I see zero evidence that he accepts or blesses a union between people of the same sex. Go figure.

  • David

    1. Poetic justice for that jerk.
    2. Good for her. Dan Cathy will be proud of her when he sees this, and I’m sure he will. We all should be proud and compelled to show as much grace. (pointing to myself here)
    3. Interesting to me how the “kind-hearted liberal” side of this situation, including much of the media, always supports freedom of speech and political diversity… Oh, unless you don’t completely agree with them. Then you should shut up, keep your opinions private, or die. This guy… Case in point.
    4. Dan Cathy (who I happened to agree with for the most part) could be a rabid Nazi for all I care. Chick-fil-A food be BANGIN!

  • Jaime

This made me cry, not because of the chick-fil-a issue, but that God clearly shows me and others constant love and grace when I or we constantly act like a mean, arrogant, selfish jerk. Thanks for sharing!

  • http://brokenheadstock.com Phillip

    Poor kid.

It takes a real man to blindside a teenage girl at the drive through window of her part-time job. I can’t believe she handled that as well as she did. I probably would have thrown the water at him, which is probably what he was secretly hoping for.

  • fermin

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and redeemer” (Ps 19:14). Rachel honored our Lord today. May He keep her strong and safe.

  • Martha

Shame on him!!! I admire that emoloyee’s poise and self control because I’m not sure if I would’ve cried or lost my temper! However you feel about chick fil a’s corporate values he is wrnt to take it out on an employee and he certainly wasn’t practicing what he preached by hating on that poor girl!

  • Luke
    • http://larryhehn.com Larry Hehn

      Amen!

  • Stephanie

This happened in my neck of the woods, in Tucson, AZ. What was especially offensive about his rant was how he went off about “I’m really a nice guy. Totally heterosexual. No gay here.” As if any of us really CARE what your sexual orientation is? The Chick-Fil-A employee deserves a raise and a promotion. It would be an act of grace if Chick-Fil-A offers that guy a job. I kind of hope that they do because perhaps it would humble him a bit.

the whole situation is sad because rumor has it that he’s married with 4 kids. I bet his wife was not too happy that day when he came home from work early and announced that he’d lost his job because he did something so assinine.

    • Stephanie

I was at that exact Chick-Fil-A on Wed, 8/1, but didn’t dine there because the lines were INCREDIBLE! I went through the drive-thru today and the nice woman who served me was wearing an “I AM SECOND” bracelet…same one I got in February at a Newsboys concert. :-D

  • Michelle Guzman

Well done! I’ve always had incredible customer service at Chick-Fil-A. She handled the situation so well. :)

  • Brenda

Ugh. Everything about this video makes me sad. Sad that he felt putting a young lady on the spot (even after she expressed her discomfort) was the best way to show his disagreement with a corporation. Sad that this was probably not the only unhappy customer employees have had to deal with recently. Sad that so many people on all sides are spending more effort getting angry and blowing hot air than actually doing something productive.

  • Phronsie

The statement “I want to stop the hate” and his actions don’t line up.

Way to go Rachel, you handled that much better than I would have.

    • Phronsie

Or, you know, what he said about stopping hate. Whatever. His actions still didn’t match his words.

  • http://jbmthinks.com janis Meredith

Rachel is a hero for keeping her calm.

  • Brandon Walter

Wow, is all i can say for this mans disrespect to this young employee. She has done nothing wrong, but try and support her self, and in turn is then bullied for the mistakes of a large company. She should not be treated with such disrespect, and for her to be so calm shows us that she is an amazingly strong woman. Rachel deserves all the respect she was not given on this day.

  • Deb

It finally became clear why my “gut” hurt when I would hear about this video. After watching it for the first time, I felt a compassion for this man. The enemy has his thinking, actions and values so twisted and distorted from what God would desire in his life. Is there anyone who will show him the grace we’ve been shown? Anyone who will pray the spiritual bondage is broken off of him? Anyone to be the light of Jesus in his life? We’ll likely never know because it wouldn’t be newsworthy but I can at least pray “that the eyes of his heart will be flooded with light” Eph. 1:18.

  • John M.

Heard on AFR news this morning that this guy was fired from his job as a result of his actions here.
