I am an introvert in an extroverts body.
Silence fuels me.
Long flights alone with my thoughts encourage me.
I love a good party.
Don’t get me wrong.
I just get refilled in the silence.
I wonder about you Ragamuffins.

Are you an introvert or an extravert?
Los

Definitely an introvert. I’d rather go to coffee with one person for an hour than hang out at a party with 50 people. I like being around people, but I much prefer it to be with a small group. I need down time alone to recharge.

I’m a total introvert. When I shared this in a Bible study I was leading a few weeks ago no one could believe it. I guess I hide it well. I think people think because I’m on stage as a worship leader that I must really be an extrovert but I’m with you… silence fuels me. People drain me.

Definitely an extrovert, not that I don’t love to be alone and in the quiet. Hiking up a mountain to be alone and read a book is an awesome and needed experience, but being in the crowds and having a good time really gets me excited.

Totally an introvert. I’m driving to Nashville from Wisconsin for the StoryLine conference on Saturday and can’t wait for the drive!

  • Thea Nelson

Introvert! I used to take a long drive alone every night to worship, pray, think, and just be quiet. Now that I’m a wife and mom, it happens about 4 times a year. :) I’m a collision of a total people person and an introvert. I am very people-focused but can best serve others when I’ve gotten away for a bit. Absolutely the silence refills!

  • Alice

    Introvert. Almost too much sometimes.

    • Phronsie

Me too! There are times when my three kids are too much for me, LOL! (Which I totally realize is partially just a mom thing but it is also partially the introvert thing.)

  • http://www.vpleonard.com V

Introvert in an introvert’s body! I have to be careful not to let myself isolate too much, actually…

  • http://bohemianbowmans.com Jessica

Amen! I’m glad people are finally starting to recognize this more. I’ve always been tagged as an extrovert, but I finally realized a couple of years ago that just because I’m good at being social didn’t mean that I wasn’t still highly introverted.

    • kara

me too jessica! people are usually shocked to their very core to find out that i am an introvert. little do they know that i usually have to go home and take a nap after group outings. y’all just wear me out!

  • ione

A total introvert but I have learned and appear to many as an extrovert, but I know that I need some alone time with myself to rejuvenate regularly, very much like your post, thanx for sharing :)

  • jenni

Introvert… and this is a huge topic to truly understand people! Great books: introverts in the church, quiet, and introvert advantage.

Def an introvert. Big social situations, even dinner with my family, are completely draining. At least one day a week, i need to be alone for a few hrs to recharge.

  • Tommy

I am an introvert, but because I am a pastor, I play the part of an extrovert well. I am refueled by being alone…movies alone, ballgames alone, camping alone. I actually play it so well, that those who know me are shocked, when I tell them. However, being around groups of people absolutely drains me of all my energy.

  • Ronni

Huge introvert, but I love people… so I do okay but I’ve always been socially awkward and being an only child been forced to be “on spot”… and hate it. I do better one on one with people than in groups… and after I get off work, I must have some down time or I implode. My recharge is a long motorcycle ride with nobody but me and God… or a book in the back of a coffee shop (love to people watch)… but alone. :-)

  • Rissa

    Extroverted introvert.

So really an introvert who has learned how to be (somewhat) extroverted in social settings (parties, etc).

  • http://www.mustardseedyear.com Jason Wert

I am just like you, Los. Except shorter and with less musical talent.

  • http://jasonshafer.tumblr.com/ Jason

introvert who likes to party w/ small crew of amazing people. above around 5 people and the energy is being sucked from me. Funny that God has me in a staff where just my department is bigger than that! #growing #findingbalance

  • http://www.maeflowerphotography.com Amanda Mae

Definitely an introvert. People exhaust me.

  • Kristin

    Introvert.

I’m pretty convinced that the entire blogosphere comprised of mainly introverts. Instant, deep conversation without all the small talk, and as a bonus you can just skip over all the ramblers who typically hog the conversation and whose opinion you don’t care for in the first place.

  • http://barnardrach.blogger.com Rachel

    Introvert!!!

Anybody ready “Introverts in the Church”? It’s great!

  • http://www.christenmccluney.com Christen

    total introvert

  • Stephanie

hardcore introvert that is outgoing. nobody ever believes me.

  • MJT

I’m a “walking contradiction” I am an introvert who enjoys being around people…

  • http://www.parenthoodexperiment.blogspot.com Auntie J

I’m much more of an introvert than an extrovert. I enjoy spending time with friends, but a huge party is less than my ideal good time. I’d rather spend time with a couple of close friends than a large group. It’s why I’m more behind-the-scenes and my husband is the youth pastor (because he’s the extroverted freak here). I recharge alone. I love walking alone with just my mp3 player for company. I can curl up and lose myself in a good book for hours.

None of which I can really do today, because this week I am both Mom and Dad. 32 more hours….

  • http://timpayne.org Tim

Definitely an introvert – even if I wasn’t, I’d be tempted to jump on the introvert bandwagon since it seems to be the trendy thing now :)

  • Natalie

As much as I love hanging out with my friends and the people close to me, I am definitely an introvert. I don’t know if I am an introvert because of my anxiety, or if it is the other way around, but I do know that if I don’t have my quiet time I start to go crazy!

  • http://www.jasonvana.com Jason Vana

I would say I’m an introvert in an extrovert’s body as well. Most people see me as an extrovert, but I am energized by silence and time alone.

  • terrence

I’m an introvert,a musician and a Bible nerd with tattoos,a bald and a beard! I guess I’m almost your twin! I’m really learning to embrace what I always thought was a bad thing (gaining strength from solitude and silence). But I’ve also been wrecked by God because He has given me such a heart for community and reaching the lost! I can’t do that in a corner by myself! I’m thankful that God has made me who I am and given me His Spirit to empower me to be even more than who I’m comfortable being.

  • Kevin

    Introvert!

  • http://carolesmithturner.com Carole Turner

I’m an extrovert but I do get my greatest inspiration when I’m alone or board.

  • Jake Anderson

    I am an INFJ.

Introvert, Intuition, Feeling, Judging (like my time, not people)

  • Tommy E

Have you ever considered going to a Quaker meeting? I attend, and the silent worship can be very powerful.

  • http://Www.Kirraantrobus.Blogspot.Com Kirra

I think people don’t realize introvert and extrovert has nothing to do with whether you are shy or outgoing. Just because you’re outgoing doesn’t make you an extrovert necessarily. That being said, I am a shy introvert.

  • http://iChilly.com Chilly

Wow, can I ever relate to this one! I just blogged about it this week… check out: http://ichilly.com/silent-treatment

  • http://www.lindseynobles.com Lindsey Nobles

I’m becoming more introverted in my old age.

  • HeatherEV

Strong introvert. But I’m also a youth leader who needs to be exciting and real. It’s an interesting balance.

  • http://Cameroncorbin.com Cameron

I am a massive introvert! I use to fight, but now I just accept it and use it to the best of my advantage

  • Chris

Introvert. Married an introvert. We have two extraverted kids. They are Crazy!

A great new book to read: Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. It is a great read!

Introvert with extrovert tendencies. Dont like to be by myself for too long, I start geeting irritable.

  • Megan A.

Introvert… and borderline hermit. I HATE being interrupted at work. I LOVE spending all day by myself.

  • http://www.gphintz.com GP Hintz

This was always a tough one for me. Everyone would think that I am an extrovert because I speak in front of so many people each week, but I’m really not. The easiest test I heard was simply to ask yourself this question, “What recharges your battery?” If being around people gets you charged back up, extro it is. If being alone does, then intro it is. Hands down… I am an introvert trapped in an extroverts body too :-) Thanks for asking. GP

  • KellyC

I think I might be your twintrovert. I couldn’t describe it any better than the way you just said it. Yep, that’s me, too.
