You deserve to finish that song.
You deserve to speak at that conference.
You deserve to sing on that stage.
You deserve to have them to hang on to the hug once you let go.
You deserve to find that love letter on your doorstep.
You deserve to laugh again.
You deserve to look forward to work.
You deserve to get that bigger office.
You deserve to see that coast you dream of seeing.
You deserve to sleep in the suite.
You deserve to write the novel that will make grown men cry.
You deserve to reside in your Truth.
You deserve to learn of grace.
You deserve to teach of the grace you once learned of.
You deserve to know you don’t really deserve any of this.
You deserve to know that in spite of that, you still can have all of this.
Because you deserve it.

I gotta be honest. I don’t get it. Who deserves anything that they have? Maybe I’m missing something.

  • Christianna

No we don’t. You forgot the most important one. We deserve death but because of what Jesus did, eternal life is ours!

    Los –
I think you missed the mark on this one. We live in a world where so many have believed the lie that, “They deserve to”. What we deserve is to be punished and to be separated for all of eternity from our Father. But that’s not who our Father is. As I read this, I replaced “I deserve” with “I am blessed” and then it made sense. It rang true to God’s character, to His promise.

    I’d love your thoughts…

      Hey CL,

I have to say, I disagree with your sentiments here. I think Los is spot on.

Looking at the modern definition of deserve, it means: to be worthy of, qualified for.

I think Los’ sentiment is clearly aligned with God’s heart for us. He find us worthy of and qualified for those things, but as Los says here: “You deserve to know you don’t really deserve any of this.”

Which I think points to the fact that it’s only by Christ’s work on the cross that we are made worth of and qualified for.

The thing is, although from your perspective it’s a lie that many believe. I think the world is evidence that it’s a truth that so many people won’t accept. It’s why they do things that are hurtful to themselves and keep them far from God.

God clearly desires to know us and for us to ourselves in Him, and He believes we DESERVE that. Otherwise he would have never sent His son for our souls.

Just a different perspective. God Bless!

        Marlee,
I appreciate your response and your perspective. Just for clarification, I struggle with the I deserve statements, (and I readily admit, this is my struggle). in todays society people don’t pay enough attention to be subtle about truth. I too often hear statements that carry just enough truth to make one feel good, but not enough to change a life and I believe that changing lives is what we are called to do.
Again, I appreciate you taking the time to share and your words did not fall on deaf ears, I promise.

        Be blessed!
