You have 7 words.
You must use all seven.
You cannot use 6.
You cannot use 8.
You must use 7.
Describe what you feel when you see picture.
Calm in the eye of the storm.
I'm just trying to go to class.
Courage spitting in the face of hate.
Keep moving forward even when its hard.
See how we are? How very sad. (Inspiration from song/vid by 80s punk band "X": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5Qdv5c8AFc)
taking a step when all is uncertain.
A Situation involving an epic scale ignorance
I feel the hatred all around me.
To Elizabeth Ekford: thank you for walking! (seven)
What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Ain't gonna let nobody turn me around
Oops…messed up the link. Try this:
Hate will not ever be greater than
God is for me, who against me?
There is no fear but fear itself
I can't open my mouth any wider
Jesus help us all only You can.
reconciliation sounds nice. when does IT come?
arm in arm we stand together divided
I Have a Dream that one day
Cruelty that pierces even the hardest heart
Strength in the face of hateful opposition
It's sad… They thought they were right.
The lady in the middle is hungry.
murderous threats, hateful hearts..I'm still standing
Courage to move forward despite others' hatred.
My perseverance will only lead to hope!
this is what happens without God's redemption
We've come so far, or have we?
NEVER GIVE UP on what is right!
white people, white people, white people why?
The Dream of Equality becomes real TODAY!
Where faith and uncertainty battle for hearts..
When small steps become humanity's giant leap.
Her will. Her courage. THEY cannot shake
A lot of so-called religious folks being "religious".
The courage of one, to change the world
The worst and best in God's creation
I have two:
You asked what I felt looking at the photo:
Makes me sad to be a caucasian.
As a caption for the picture:
I am a movement, so easily threatened.
Without love I’m like a clanging cymbal
Young black woman leading the way forward.
One step in the war against bigotry
Have things really changed much since then?
together we stand, divided we fall:unity.
they know not what they do
How did we embrace all this hate?
I am no better than anyone else.
The Invisible War heats up raging through racism.
this is persecution- undeserved anger against another.
The worst first day of school ever!
That girl has bravery I can't imagine
Still the same looks, just different clothes.
thanks for reminding me to be brave
Seeds of a cultural Revolution through education.
Forgetting what is behind…I press on…
I'm not afraid; Thou art with me
A picture that says a thousand words
Help me understand.
That girl has more cojones than me
changing the "normal" makes the ignorant uncomfortable
so much beauty and so much hate
I'm the willing center of hateful attention.
Intensified hate strengthens the back of courage.
A desire to step in and help.
See, this is what we have become.
what this world needs is only Jesus
Hate. Prejudice. Pain. Alone. Resolve. Courage. CHANGE.
When the devil wins, we all lose.
The crowd will not stop my dream.
Much has changed. Sadly, much has not.
I wonder why that chick is yawning.
Bonus points for a haiku?
Forgive them father
for their discrimination
(The 7 word limit really cramps my style.)
The courage of one sets all free
Staying calm in the midst of anger
The alotted seven words are not enough
We often become the evil we fear
Because of your bravery, I have freedom.
peace | dewde
Belief is a powerful double edged sword.
this was not all that long ago.
i think that's from my hometown clinton
My dignity preserved, yet foolishness still abounds.
must kick screaming white woman in throat
Screaming in Fear and Ignorance… SHE STANDS.
No Words Express What This Picture Says
You can't stop this. Shut your mouth.
Fine, hate me. I won't turn back.
Do all that you do in LOVE (1 corinthians 16:13-14)
My determination is greater than your hate.
Hatred spurns resilience, persistence, love and determination!!!!
The woman walks alone in a crowd.
It's like ragamuffinsoulpancake….I mean, soulpancake's post for the day is very similar.
The oppression of this era hurts me.
I completely disagree with what I see.
Fear abounding, courage shining and Satan laughing
So alone. So very alone. I'm sorry
If only "I'm sorry" could be enough …
if not by grace, there go I
Politics suck. Can't we all get along?
your steps are not for you alone
I fail the exercise, but two things:
Grandpa, why did you keep her out? (he was one of those *nice* men in uniform)
I wonder what I'm that wrong about.
“…but to the humble, He gives favor”
I don't understand what the problem is OR
"' one step at a time', mama says"
I will walk, even if by myself.
more courage in her than in me
Not sure why some people don’t understand.
She is human like you and me.
I hope they didn't call themselves Christians.
And they were probably church attending “Christians”.
Inspired to one day be as courageous.
That lady behind me has bad breath.
I'm sad my daughter will experience this.
I guess they didn't like my suggestions.
Did she walk alone, or with God?
Why are we screaming at that woman?
Are you stealing creativity from SoulPancake? Or maybe we'll call it "borrowing."
Just seems a bit coincidental…. come on – give props if ya are…
i'm about to knock that b—- out
um … the screaming lady, not the amazing, courageous one taking all that BS.
Brave. Hate. Anger. Fear. Strong. Stupid. Brave.
this photo makes me so friggin' mad.
Ignorance rears its ugly head still today
in humility consider others better than yourselves
Feelings that seam not to have changed
No one thought of using a backpack?
God expects Me to love You?
arrising to my destiny and making history!
I wonder where we do the same
The past, behind me, the future…ahead
I won’t look down or look back.
This picture is very disturbing to me.
I won't look down or look back.
Hold on, love will find a way.
…there is a picture of this African American woman and the woman screaming directly behind her in an embrace. it hangs up in the student union of Indiana University. it was taken only a few years ago. hate got lost in love.
Ignorance isn't bliss when it hurts others.
You, Lord, are a shield around me.
I shall be strong amidst my adversity
Not understanding makes people scared and angry
Smell the sneers of deep fried self-righteousness.
The boy on the right seems amused.
HATE ALWAYS BREEDS HATE, LOVE BREEDS LOVE!
Beautiful determination walking past ignorance and hatred.
I tiny white woman. Hear me rawwwwwr!
Things change, but never forget your past
ashamed it was not that long ago.
She walks past hatred, not in it.
Women with conviction for what is right.
Interesting that I didn't see the difference in race until about 3 minutes into the exercise. Love that about being Canadian. All I saw were very determined women marching together.
Be courageous not frightened. I am here.
Hated for no reason… like my Jesus.
never forget where we have come from
Yet we still have far to go
strength in the midst of their hatred
she moves brave through the fearful crowd.
Everybody deserves to learn something new today
By the providence of God, no longer.
Some Arkansans felt shame. I was one.
God created me to walk here today
Wanna smack gaping mouth girl…real hard.
it’s sad that used to define us.
Kickin' fear in the teeth white she-devil!
I'm so sorry… that was me.
Yea though I walk through the valley
Hopefully people who would now regret this.
Harshness of others berings light to darkness
He EVEN loves those hateful white women.
Glad nobody’s immortalized my stupidity on film.
courage is no the absence of fear (not my quote btw)
I want them to see her beauty.
This makes me want to throw up.
No matter what's behind, don't look back.
disgust, unfairness, inequality, jesus died for ALL
Anger Anger Anger Determination Hate Hate hate
I'm in awe of this girl's bravery.
Not fearing ignorance can change the world.
Turning your back on those who hate
The actions of one can affect many.
Tillich said, "Love is stronger than death."
I don't understand why they hated us
God, You take each step with me.
Ain't nobody going to hold me down!
I might as well finish it up (Oh No! I've Got to Keep on Moving)
that dress style is of the devil!
Living her story and leaving her mark.
WHAT!? No you didnt just say that…
Is that a macbook in your arm?
We're all racist. Jesus uniquely not bigoted.
There is much strength in her beauty
Reverse that : *There is much beauty in her strength*
Good God Becky! Look at her dress!
Missed opportunity to show her God's love
I stand for change in the world
not exactly the proudest moment in Arkansas.
the courageous few overcome generations of hate
What is right is hardly ever easy.
PS- I’m stealing this and using it in my 7th grade english classroom. I’ll let you know….
It's the women on the front line
Certain of what we can not see.
I think loneliness makes me feel powerful.
They are now friends. Really, truly, amazing.
that’s true I actually had a chance to meet The lady in march 2011 I believe it was while we visited the school in the national guard.
She is a very sweet lady.
that was my mother in law gwen
stylish women with looks that could kill
i feel frightened…they’re going to attack.

Scream your hate, lady. It means nothing.
What lies are we teaching our children today?
Oops. This was for the “Nazi” creative lesson. My bad.
When words cannot hold back physical and courageous movement
If THIS was just ‘in my blood’, I’d want a blood-letting.
Then they went to church on Sunday.
Trying is having the intention to fail.
